Portrait direction and consent sheet

Fictional seated headshot: the sitter prefers a relaxed expression and wants their mobility aid visible. The goal is an agreed presentation, not a universal body shape.

Ask first

Agree intended use, image sharing and comfort boundaries. Offer seated, standing or supported options; ask before touching hair, clothing or equipment.

Standing cue

If comfortable, turn your shoulders slightly toward the window. Keep your weight wherever it feels stable. Let your hands rest naturally or give them a relevant task.

Seated cue

Choose a supportive seat. Try facing the light, then turning a little away. Move the camera to suit the person instead of demanding a difficult posture.

Expression cue

Look toward the lens, breathe out and let your mouth relax. Make one change at a time; avoid commands about hiding, slimming or fixing features.

Frame check

Check finger crops, garment folds, glasses reflections and eye focus. Show the sitter a frame and ask whether it matches the agreed purpose.
