Print and paper proof worksheet

Artistic Hive · Original resource · October 2026

Illustrative job: a 4 × 6 inch image at 300 pixels per inch needs 1200 × 1800 pixels. A 1200 × 1800 file printed at 6 × 9 inches provides 200 pixels per inch. PDF export cannot create missing source detail.

Choose the route

Home: confirm printer, paper, driver and whether borderless printing is supported. Shop: obtain trim, bleed, safe area, color profile and file requirements. Canva Print: check the selected product’s own proof, availability and checkout terms.

Check scale

Measure the PDF page dimensions before printing. Use 100% or Actual Size when a precise physical dimension is required; inspect the preview for clipping. Borderless modes may enlarge the image. Measure a ruler mark on a real proof.

Compare finishes fairly

Print the same edited file, at the same size, through the same lab/printer. Record the exact paper products and ICC/profile choices. Inspect diffuse light, direct glare and the intended glazing separately.

Handle and inspect

Handle by the edges. Record surface reflections, visible marks and tonal changes without assuming every matte or glossy paper behaves identically. A screen mockup cannot show actual paper glare.

Approve a proof

Check crop, small type, skin tones, shadows and edges. Record the proof date and accepted changes before ordering a run. No printer or physical paper has been tested through this worksheet.
